Internally staff can sign into the website and gain data that they may need from home. The external communication is a lot more effected by the website. The website communicates with customers about products, store information, special offers and online sales. The online shop that Boots operates increases the performance of the business financially as little money is needed in its upkeep compared to the amount the stores require. The website enables Boots to make more money with less input. Less staff is needed to operate the online store so money is saved there. There is no need for a physical shop it is all virtual so this saves money on rent, bills, and general upkeep. Nothing can be broken or damaged by customers like in a Boots store. The online store can be used 24 hours a day 7 days a week and while people shop they may notice new products and they will see advertising around the site that might be of interest. The advertising space is also a benefit to Boots as it is free and unlimited. All these aspects are elements that contribute to the economic and low cost high profit performance of the business. Email Email can be used to enhance the performance of the business internally and externally Internally messages can be typed and sent to many people very quickly. This saves money and time in photocopying and distribution of letters. Emails internally can be used in restricted and open format dependant on the content. They can be used to make staff aware of information about price changes and strategic alterations that may need to be put into place. The use of emails in Boots to make staff aware of extra shift work available and job opportunities that may become available add to the efficiency and economic performance of the business by reducing the time that is used up by alternative methods. Staff can get in hold of the business via email when they need as it is a quick and easy way to do so. Externally emails are used a lot in Boots for advertising. Customer databases are formed with information from the reward card scheme and the email addresses are put into a file. This is used to send customers information about special offers and general advertising. This is a lot cheaper than alternative methods such as the constructing printing and posting of leaflets and brochures. Links are used a lot to make it quick and appealing for customers to explore the online shop and be tempted to purchase goods. This increases the performance of the business by again making more money from as little input as possible. It saves Boots money, time, and manpower, which effectively frees more opportunity for the business to expand and develop. Without ICT Boots would by now have lost out to competition, wasted hundreds of thousands of pounds ineffectively and not bee the multi million pound empire they are today. Production process The production process is typically present within the operation of a manufacturing orientated business. This is the basic process of production INPUT PROCESS OUTPUT Boots is retail service not a manufacturing one. The production process is still however related around the business. Although Boots do not manufacture products the production process is vital in ensuring all elements of the business operation run smoothly. The production process as shown above consists of three sections which are the input the process and the output. Boots is in the tertiary section of the industry as it is an outlet that sells goods. This is the output and this is the main aspect that affects Boots. The inputs are the primary sector and the process is secondary. As Boots is in the tertiary sector and sells goods it must also use the secondary and primary industry also. An example of the process would be involving the secondary section of industry. This would be the purchasing of goods from suppliers to sell in the store. Boots do not directly have a contribution to this area of the production process. They do however contribute to the input section of the production process which represents the primary industry. Boots can investigate medicines and test treatments for sales in their stores. The manufacturing, mass production and distribution to stores are the process part of Boots production process representing secondary industry.

The Toxicological Consequences of the Chernobyl Accident Radiation has both beneficial and harmful effects. The most detrimental health effect on humans, is the incidence of cancer, which has been studied. Humans are exposed to radiation more than they realize. They are exposed medically with x-rays, just by being outside with cosmic rays, and by accidents such as at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. Exposure to radiation is high and more studies are done which improve radiation protection. The Chernobyl disaster is one such example in which the studies done had implications in the future of radiation protection. It was an unprecedented event. Large amounts of radiation were released into the area and affected the population living there. With the known damaging effects of radiation, this event was not to be ignored. The factors playing a role in the spread of the radiation as well as the future implications of radiation exposure/protection are explored in this paper. The results of the accident were due to the elements of the area, population and nature of the radiation. These results showed the need to improve radiation data collection as well as safety measures. Radiation is harmful because of its interactions with the environment and the body and in turn, the Chernobyl disaster was harmful because it released large amounts of radiation into the environment, exposing the population. Radiation is broken up into four types: alpha particles, beta particles and positrons, gamma rays and x-rays. Electron volt is the conventional energy unit for ionizing radiation (1 eV = 1.6 x 10-19 J). Stay at Home Moms vs Working Moms

Many women have careers before they began their family. But once the first child arrives, it is time to decide whether to be a stay-at-home mom or to go back to work. There are many factors that go into this decision and it is different for every family. Making a decision to stay at home with the children or join the workforce can be a difficult process. I have been fortunate to experience being a stay-at-home mom for three years. I’ve come o realize the benefits of becoming a stay-at-home mom versus a working mom is having more time with the children, less stress, and it saves financially. One of the biggest and most obvious benefits of being a stay-at-home mom is the amount of time available to spend with the children. A stay-at-home mom is assured her children are being raised in a healthy, positive environment. Stay-at-home moms can expect fewer doctor bills, some children don’t come in contact with as many viruses and bacteria at home than at a daycare. If they do get a cold or the flu, the parent at home does not have to scramble to find care or ask for a day off of work. They are already at home with the child. Mothers at home have their busy days, but also have days where they spend time doing things just for the kids. They can go to the park at a moments notice. As a stay-at-home mom, I have the time to sit with my children and read books, play with race cars, and teach them the letters of the alphabet. Some benefits of being a stay-at-home mom is the mother is able to teach and educate her children, and have more consistent discipline. By staying at home, mothers can ensure that their children have the best start in life, by giving them the love and support they need. Staying at home can mean reduced stress to a slower, less frantic pace. While the world around us is going a million miles an hour, my children’s world is calm and stable. There is no morning rush to get everyone out the door and there are no chaotic evenings where we are not sure who is going to cook supper. I can give my children the time they deserve instead of cramming in time here and there. It is true that raising children can be stressful, but mothers who stay at home have less stress upon them than the working moms. Probably one of the biggest factors helping to decide if a parent should stay at home with the children is whether it is economically feasible. In many small ways, my being at home enables us to live on less (which means we have less income). Because I am at home, I have the time to keep track of our finances month-to-month and put together a detailed shopping list which helps keep our grocery bill to a minimum. Transportation expenses also often drops for stay-at-home moms. This can also decrease the premiums of auto insurance. A benefit of staying at home has the ability to save on or even eliminate the cost of child care. One of the most easily forgotten factors is taxes will decrease with the loss of that second income. After all, the decrease in taxes is not only in terms of dollars but also in the tax bracket. A stay-at-home mom eats out less often on average. Also the amount a stay-at-home mom spends on clothing generally goes down significantly. There is little need for a stay-at home mom to constantly buy new clothing. When a mother decides to stay-at-home, she can cut the hidden cost of work funds. Stay-at-home parenting is a full time occupation and definitely not and easy one. For my husband and I, we felt that taking a more active role in our children’s care, raising them up in the things we believe, and teaching and loving them for those precious early years would be beneficial to them. The best part of staying at home is setting my own schedule and getting to do fun things with my kids. Each set of parents has an idea of how they want their children to be raised. No one can raise children the way parents want except the parents themselves. There is a special bonding and interaction that grows and takes place between parents and children when either parent is able to stay at home. Sharing everyday life with kids, seeing them growing on a daily basis and giving the love and attention the need can make both parents and kids happy.

In this essay I will be covering Marxist, Interactionist and Functionalist theories of society. I will be examining their strengths and weaknesses. Functionalist theory tries to explain how society remains stable rather than in chaos and how functionalism contributes to the stability of the whole society. An example of how functionalism works would be; Primary socialization of a child at home preparing them for the secondary socialization of school, then at school it is not just the national curriculum that is taught, they are also preparing youngsters for life after school (paid work) by using ‘the hidden curriculum’.
